While Harvest Hero’s Enhanced Perlite Mix takes most of the guesswork out of the first 30-40 days of growth, We have listed additional steps and fertilizers which will work in harmony with Harvest Hero’s patent-pending Enhanced Perlite Mix to produce higher yields, increase potency, and develop that sweet, pungent aroma of Cannabis.
The growth stages of cannabis can be broken down into four primary stages from seed to harvest:
- Germination (3-10 days)
- Seedling (2-4 weeks)
- Vegetative (4-16 weeks)
- Flowering (8-11 weeks)
Germination Stage
During seed germination, energy for seedling growth is supplied to the plant via the cotyledons (the first above-ground parts of the newly emerging seedling). The cotyledons have dense reserves of carbohydrates and minerals to supply adequate growth for the first 10 days of growth. The only necessity for the first 10 days of seedling growth is full direct sunlight. If the seedling appears to lose its dark green color, apply ½ seaweed solution (use ½ strength of bottle recommendations) sprayed on the young seedlings. The seaweed will supply additional energy and minerals to the seedling and restore the dark green color. Harvest Hero will supply sufficient amounts of potassium and phosphorus and promote strong, healthy roots, stems, and leaves. Be sure to keep the soil moist at all times during the germination phase.
Seedling Stage
The plant can live for a time off of nutrients in the cotyledon. Use minimal or no added fertilizer in the early seedling stage. Rooted cuttings are often deficient after propagation. Feed very gently with a 1-1-1 balanced formula at about 100 ppm for each once there is adequate root development. This normally occurs during weeks 2-4. A great supplemental fertilizer is fish emulsion. Use ¼ teaspoon of fish emulsion to 1 gallon of clear water and spray the young plants leaves until the spray drips off of the leaf surface. This process can be done once a week.
Vegetative Stage
The vegetative growth stage averages 4 weeks but can be as short as 2 weeks or as long as 2 months depending on the environment, variety, and container size, and photoperiod. Use fish emulsion but increase rates to full strength bottle recommendations. The addition of liquid seaweed is also very beneficial during vegetative growth. Use seaweed at full strength bottle recommendations. To save time, mix both seaweed and fish emulsion together and spray both at one time. Do this once a week during the vegetative stage. Harvest Hero Enhanced Perlite Mix is hard at work supplying phosphorus and potassium along with amorphous silica to develop strong, healthy plant tissues.
Flowering Stage
The flowering stage can last from week 8 to 12, depending on cultivar and environmental conditions. Calcium, magnesium, and other micronutrients are important additions at the start of the bloom stage to produce strong sturdy plants with heavy buds and a robust root system. This can be accomplished by using calcium nitrate (15-0-0) at the rate of ¼ teaspoon per gallon of water. Spray the calcium nitrate weekly for the first 4 weeks of the flowering cycle. Also of benefit is a weekly spray of full-strength seaweed solution.
